UCP of Central Ohio Honors Long-Time Participants

Kathy Streblo, Executive Director of UCP of Central Ohio, with Jimmy CrumOn November 4, 2008, UCP of Central Ohio recognized seven long-time participants in a ceremony that included families, caregivers, service providers, friends and special guest and local TV legend Jimmy Crum, a former board member who began serving his term in 1957.

The honored participants have been coming to UCP for more than 20 years, one of whom has been a participant for 49 years! Honorees were awarded a certificate and trophy, while all current UCP of Central Ohio participants received a certificate of appreciation.

Jimmy Crum, A Former UCP of Central Ohio Board MemberThe ceremony featured an inspiring dance number by staff members, and a look back at the affiliate’s humble beginnings. Founded in 1951, the organization was housed in an old banana warehouse and served as a treatment center for teens and adults with Cerebral Palsy. The organization has come a long way, now serving nearly 200 adults with various disabilities and aging conditions.

Kathy Streblo, Executive Director, believes the family-like atmosphere at UCP makes it a second home for many people, and that since its inception, UCP of Central Ohio has made great progress for people with disabilities.

"Victor Warken, parent and founding Executive Director, once commented that 'We are going to do something about this if it takes the rest of our lives.' Today we celebrate over a half century of progress by honoring seven participants who have been served for two decades or more. We look back at your accomplishments and are proud of the role UCP played in helping you to live your life without limits!" said Streblo.
