On February 9, Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) President and CEO Kevin S. Law presented United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) of Suffolk with a check for an energy efficiency rebate worth $19,119.70. UCP of Suffolk recently partnered with LIPA to ensure energy efficiencies at its new Health Center specializing in medical and therapeutic services for individuals with disabilities.

The fully accessible, comprehensive 25,000 square foot Health Center in Central Islip, NY was built to accommodate individuals with a wide range of disabilities, with energy efficiency in mind. The building is designed and equipped to exceed the standards of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA), and efficiency measures incorporated in the construction include: high efficiency lighting, occupancy lighting sensors and HVAC equipment. By making these efficiency installations, it is estimated that UCP will save approximately 103,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) per year, which equates to approximately $19,000 in energy savings. This project will also reduce LIPA’s energy demand by 10 kilowatts (kW), helping to reduce the need to burn more fossil fuel.

UCP of Suffolk President and CEO Stephen H. Friedman is optimistic and stated, “We welcome LIPA’s partnership in creating energy efficiencies that will enable UCP Suffolk to maximize our delivery of health services to people with disabilities while at the same time, benefiting the entire LIPA Community.”
